Michelham Priory

Michelham Priory House and Gardens

Michelham Priory is the site of a former Augustine Priory that is owned and administered by the Sussex Archaeological Society. They are Grade I and Grade II listed. The Augustine Priory of the Holy Trinity was founded at Michelham in 1229.

It is reportedly haunted by a number of apparitions. These include the ghost of King Harold, who walks in the direction of Battle Abbey; a Grey Lady (sometimes seen with a small brown dog) who looks sadly into the moat where they apparently drowned; a Blue Lady; a phantom monk at the gatehouse; and a white stallion in the stables. Staff have also reported "poltergeist" activity, but whether this is just the movement of objects is unclear.
